The Academy for Sustainable Development is to be a new internet enabled international “virtual” Academy to provide training resources and social networking opportunities.  Our vision is “Affordable Clean Energy for everyone” and also life support i.e. clean water, affordable shelter, health care, education etc

We will provide consultancy services to support efforts to exercise responsible stewardship of resources, bench mark best practise and available appropriate technologies.

We will also provide vocational training and appropriate support services to empower poor farmers in developing regions to work their way out of poverty.

 

Aston University

 

Founded in 1895 and a University since 1966, Aston is a long established research-led University known for its world-class teaching quality and strong links to industry, government and commerce.  Professor Julia King became Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2006. Aston is based in centre of Birmingham, home to over 50,000 students and one of Europe’s liveliest and most welcoming cities

 

Axon Automotive Ltd

 

Axon Automotive Ltd. is one of Europe’s newest car companies and takes a distinctive approach to the clean tech challenge in the Auto sector.  Good aerodynamics, light weight (arising from Axon’s globally patented carbon fibre chassis technology) and very fuel efficient 500cc petrol engines gives 100mpg fuel economy (2.8l/100km) and immediate wide market applicability and low CO2.  A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is scheduled for late 2011. 

Axon’s other unique commercial attribute is that the cost of capital investment for carbon chassis is a factor of 10 cheaper than the steel equivalent.  This enables market entry and profitability at significantly lower volumes than steel and aluminium competitors. Light vehicles are also ideal for electrification to minimize battery cost and maximize range.

 

Brunel University

 

Centre for Advanced Powertrain and Fuels (CAPF) at Brunel University is one of the largest and most active engine research centres on IC engines in the UK, and focuses on both experimental and modelling aspects of engine research with the aim of minimising pollutant emissions and improving fuel efficiency. Brunel University is located in West London and its engineering research and education activities are ranked amongst the top 10 in UK. In particular, novel and cost-effective air hybrid technologies have been proposed and being developed, which can be implemented to production vehicles with much lower cost and much less engineering works.

 

CENEX

 

Cenex is the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies.  Set up as an industry-lead public-private partnership, the aim of Cenex is to support UK industry in building competitive advantage based on national leadership in the global shift to a low carbon economy.  Cenex supports innovaton through a Knowledge Transfer Network dedicated to automotive low carbon and fuel cell technologies and through brokering a programme of activities focused on vehicle technology demonstration, targeting early market adoption and supply chain development

 

 

Clean Power Technologies Inc. (CPTI)

 

Clean Power Technologies Inc. (CPTI) is a technology company established to respond to the business opportunities that exist with diesel and gas engines to reduce overall emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

Clean Power Technologies has developed a new concept that recovers the waste heat energy in an internal combustion engine exhaust (some 36% of the fuel energy supplied to the engine) to generate steam which is used to power a modern steam engine which in turn produces electrical power. The first products to market are landfill gas generator application and transportation refrigeration unit (reefer) power system.

 

Delcam

 

Delcam supplies software and services that help companies to maximise profitability by increasing productivity, improving quality and reducing lead times.  The company is the world’s largest specialist supplier of computer-aided machining software, with its PowerMILL, FeatureCAM, PartMaker and ArtCAM programs making up the most comprehensive range of CAM systems from any developer.  Delcam also develops product design, tooling design and quality control programs, including PowerINSPECT, the world’s leading hardware-independent inspection software.  Delcam software is used in over 80 countries worldwide by around 30,000 organisations, from large multi-nationals to small sub-contractors, in industries including aerospace, automotive, dental, footwear, medical and toolmaking.

 

Development Services Group

 

Development Services Group (DSG) has developed a new generation 3rd Way micro-turbine which is now being recognised as one of the leading technologies to combat climate change. The turbine sets new standards of efficiency and may operate on a wide range of fuels – liquid or gaseous including fossil fuels, bio-fuels and hydrogen. The turbine is to be made with appropriate partner companies operating in the automotive sector.

The 3rd Way Turbine is expected to provide 45-50% fuel to electric efficiency, ie 100+ mpg from a high performance hybrid vehicle. We expect close to 50g CO2/km (lower with bio-fuel)

The 3rd Way Turbine has applications in:

  • Hybrid vehicles – cars, trucks, locomotives, ships etc
  • Power generation
  • Solar Energy Generation Systems and provision of clean water
  • Combined cooling, heating and power systems for efficient cooling or heating of living spaces with power generation

 

EcoCa

 

EcoCa has conducted extensive market research, R & D and has selected suppliers of world class components for fast and low cost profitable mass production of light weight and safe EcoCa. Contrary to other low cost vehicles being marketed in India, EcoCa has minimum cost of maintenance and parts replacement, highly desirable for low budget commuters.

All the machinery and tool manufacturers have been carefully selected and it is possible to go to production within 8/10 months with nearly 100% of all components manufactured in India.

EcoCa is a privately owned British company and has developed a high Technology Modular Production Line for fast and low cost manufacture of no frills and highly desirable, Low Carbon quadric-cycles.

EcoCa is committed to manufacturing of LCV at production, during life and after life.

 

Evo Electric

Intelligent Energy (IE)

 

Intelligent Energy (IE) is a clean power systems company, with leading fuel cell and hydrogen generation technologies.  IE partners with major companies, in the transportation, aerospace, defence, distributed generation and portable power markets. Partners and customers include; The Suzuki Motor Corporation, with whom IE recently unveiled the fuel cell Burgman scooter at Tokyo Motor Show 2009, Scottish & Southern Energy plc, Boeing and Airbus.  IE is leading work with Lotus Engineering, London Taxis International and TWR Conekt to develop and field a fleet of fuel cell London Taxis. The first of these zero emission vehicles will be road legal in 2010.

 

Loughborough University

 

Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering at Loughborough has improved on its already strong research performance according to the results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).

 

As part of a highly successful performance across the Faculty of Engineering, 95% of the Department's research activity was deemed to be of an international standard.

 

Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering submitted 100% of its academic staff for assessment as part of the 2008 RAE, indicating that international standard research is being undertaken across the whole breadth of the department. This achievement builds on the results of the

2001 RAE when the department was awarded a grade 5 rating.

Ranked 7th in the UK in both the Times Higher and The Guardian, 20% of the Department's research is classed as 'world-leading' (rated the maximum 4*) 95% of the Department's research is of an international standard (rated 2*, 3* or 4*)

 

 

Ma Innovation Ltd

 

Ma Innovation Ltd is 2009 UK Winner of the Shell Springboard Award for best idea combating climate change. In collaboration with Revolve Technologies Ltd, we offer full engineering support for development of low cost air hybrid vehicles using a separate supercharger regenerative braking system in all turbocharged diesel vans and buses, giving 15% fuel saving on top of the already fuel efficient turbocharged diesel vehicle while retaining the same performance. The Supercharger Air Hybrid Vehicle (SAHV) has low complexity, and the production cost is a fraction of the HEV making it an affordable, engine-only, quick-to-market air hybrid alternative to the HEV.

MIRA

 

Vehicle engineering specialists, MIRA, believes hybrid and electric vehicles should offer additional desirable features over and above reduced energy consumption and lower emissions.  The vehicles developed as a result of this approach gain greatly from MIRA’s ability to combine whole vehicle knowledge with systems integration expertise.  Recent examples include advanced energy management; providing extended range, intelligent 4WD for improved dynamic performance, EV only mode, clutch-less gear shift and removable battery cassettes – all ideal for city driving.  Further gains come from MIRA’s ability to develop non-powertrain features such as improved aerodynamics, reduced friction and light-weight materials, and incorporation of ITS technology.

 

Powertrain Technologies

 

Powertrain Technologies is an established R&D company which has been responsible for the development of World leading technology such as the e3 Variable Compression and Variable Capacity system and the novel MUSIC Ultra Lean-Burn combustion technology.  Also under development is a compact, lightweight and fuel efficient engine for small vehicles and hybrids.  Ptech are also developing a fully computer controlled and actuated belt drive CVT.  This transmission is intended to be a low cost upgrade to the existing centrifugal CVTs and as well as enhanced economy and driveability plus extended belt life it will also have a hybrid option.

Preston Technical was formed in 1991 and since becoming one of the UK’s leading “Engineered Adhesive Solution” providers to many types of industry: Automotive Electronics, Aerospace, General Manufacturing.
